My Safari Bookmark Bar is so small I can hardly see it, how do I make the print larger?

Apple has locked down Safari a lot over the years and made it tough to tweak the core interface. Short of Universal Access features to magnify the screen or (better, in my opinion) enhance contrast, there's not much that you can do to make the bookmark bar more readable--at least as of Snow Leopard's Safari 5.1.7.

Using all (or mostly) capital letters in the bookmark bar can help some, as can the judicious use of symbols rather than alphanumerics. For instance, I have an Apple symbol and a capital F in the bookmark bar that takes me to the Apple forums that I follow. Yes, it's idiosyncratic, but it doesn't tax my vision. It's perhaps best to think of the bookmark bar as a place to store labeled buttons--not buttons that you actually read but that you can recognize quickly and click.

In Mountain Lion there are now emoji in the 'show character viewer' window. Apart from standard smilies there are also many different nature/objects/symbols. These can not only be put into file names but also into bookmark bar names. They make for good differentiation between items & having different colours also helps. I also used to suffer from that smallness of print & find these images much easier to see.
