Cannot recover FileVault 1 info, Geniuses of no help
My iMac's HD crashed on me in Aug.
I had been using FV1 since I purchased the iMac in 2010.
I never switched FV to FV2, but never experienced problems with it.
After having the HD replaced, I have been unable to recover the user account associated with the backups.
The system restores, but I am unable to log on to the account, using the correct username and password.
I cannot recall the error, something that the account cannot be accessed.
I used Apple support while I still had Apple Care, but even the geniuses could not figure out my problem.
I tried making another admin to get into the files, but the old user account does not show up.
The info is there, it shows in TM that there are backups, but no data comes across when I restore, using the new admin to find the old user account.
I'm avid at hardware repair etc, but know virtually nothing about terminal and command prompts. Any help in trying to access this info, or where I could send the drive would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to provide more info, at least for me. Having multiple back ups is important. FV was more problematic then FV2. You did to mention which Mac, which version of OSX you were running and when you had the option to convert to FV2 but did not.
I am guessing Snow 10.6 by the age of the system and then you upgraded but did not convert or Decrypt first.?
I would do a fresh Operating System install and then run the migration assistant potentially to try to get data back. What type of TM back up did you do? USB, Wired or Wireless. Not a fan of TM particularly remote.
