Is it normal for a new user not to be able to view their own profile?

Noticed what might be a bug
When I click on my name in the top right corner, I can't actually see the page, it tells me I don't have permission to view it! Now unless the admins are using my profile to have a top secret conversation which I'm not meant to know about, not letting me see my own page does seem a little odd

Am I going crazy or have I actually stumbled upon a bug?

Not a bug. It's normal for new forum members (who have not yet been fully vetted and hence are not yet fully-fledged members) to have only very minimal abilities on the forums.
