First of all I am a totally wet behind the ears to any iMac or Apple computer.
I used a Macintosh Computer a couple of times in the 1980's but not since, until I bought my new 21.5 2.5GHz Intel Core i5...... I set up the system I checked the battery charge for the keyboard (wireless) it's 100% I checked the battery charge for the mouse (wireless) the charge indicated is 58% ![]() I am very seriously thinking about getting a wired mouse and wired keyboard for this computer. ![]() ![]() The battery's are the ones that came with the keyboard and mouse and also the numeric keyboard (also wireless) does any one have a suggestions. Thanks in advance. |

The batteries are AA size, and they are removable. They can be charged in a battery charger. Apple will sell you a charger with extra batteries for a reasonable price.
A USB mouse and keyboard from Apple will cost more than the battery charger plus batteries. You can shop around for bargain mice and keyboards, but a lot of them don't work well with the Mac. I think Apple USB keyboard plus Logitech USB mouse is a good combination. |

Mobee make a range of products that do away with the need for replacing batteries in Apple keyboards, mice and trackpads.
I use the Power Bar in my TrackPad, and it's brilliant -- a rechargeable, USB-powered stick that fits in the place of the batteries. http://www.mobeetechnology.com I have the wired keyboard -- I see absolutely no point in needing batteries for a device which is always less than 1 foot away from the Mac. |

@benwiggy
When those rechargeables have given up the ghost, there's the "no-battery Magic Trackpad USB Power mod": http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=980351. |

Yes, I saw that when I was looking for a product that would power the Trackpad via USB.
However, even when the batteries have died, the USB power connection (should) still work. Personally, I would prefer an entirely USB Magic Trackpad, so I could turn Bluetooth off. Last edited by benwiggy; 02-18-2013 at 07:30 AM. |

FWIW I use DuraCell rechargeable batteries. I got a charger and 4 of them with it and they last a long time (about a month). The charger is slow - takes a few hours but the things last. I also tried some Ray-O-Vac rechargeable batteries that cost half as much, and they correspondingly last about half as long.
I've been doing this with the same batteries for about 4 years. Total cost: probably about $20.00. |
