IP Blocker for iMac Lion
What is the best IP blocker for Firefox Safari Mac? A lot of folks recommend Tor, but comments say it is slow, and does not block most IP actions.
Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks |

"IP blocker" covers a pretty wide range of possibilities.
Are you trying to block your own IP (to remain relatively hidden as you browse), or block _other_ IPs to prevent access by other users? Or - some other "use"? What do you expect an "IP blocker" to do for you? |

Yes block _other_ IPs to prevent access by other users on other networks, yes. I notice that after browsing certain sites I get feed back messages for those sites. I want to browse, purchase, online stuff anonymously. Thanks |

Does Safari's "Private Browsing" not help?

You want Tor or a VPN provider. *Nothing* you do at your end will hide your external IP address.
/etc/hosts file does a nice job of blocking access to a particular host. enter the domain in question, and the loopback ip (127.0.0.1) and that host will be unreachable.
You cannot purchase things anonymously. How will the box get delivered? |

I am sorry I am not explaining what I think I need.
Here is what I was told was important. i do not think Private Browsing does this. I had thought PB just made your Mac browsing private for other people using your Mac. What I thought I needed is an IP masker. When you visit a website, you leave a footprint behind in the form of IP information. If you want to visit someone’s blog without their necessarily knowing it’s you — say if you’re checking out a biz competitor, a love interest, or an ex — you should consider masking your computer’s fingerprint, which at the very least gives away your approximate location and service provider. |

Everybody should have a privacy online especially IP no matter what you use for. You turn back on the privacy blocker when you finish your shopping online.
I think that expert programmers should fix the IP services for us because most of us are paying expensive DSL/Cable every month that are not protect us from the -blank- . I have read some articles said that it would make your online slower if you use an IP blocker. I said myself, are you kidding me? I'm sure that there must be a way. Come on. No such thing that our Earth is flat. If you work for a cable internet company, then why we are paying you to unprotect us? What if you are fired or layoff, you would feel sucker that you made your company stronger blah blah. All I think is to keep in balance and fair on both sides (customers and companies). By the way, the cable is awful expensive no matter how rich you are. |

Tor would be one choice for the (semi)hyper-paranoid
![]() https://www.torproject.org/download/...sy.html.en#mac Another possibility is Netshade: http://raynersoftware.com/netshade/ With Tor, you'd have to decide if the speed affects you - you could test that for yourself, don't rely on other folks opinions about the speed. You may find the speed is OK. |

Tor
I tried TOR it is slow. Also many sites require tunning as to whether scripts are allowed to run.
