Quicktime 7 Pro questions
I like to use QuickTime 7 to make recordings, because it shows a nice little VU meter that I can monitor while I'm recording. QT10 doesn't. Why does the QT7 VU meter seem calibrated very differently than the SysPrefs/Sound VU meter? That is, when I'm recording something with a good volume, the SysPrefs/Sound VU meter shows 50% level. The QT7 VU meter tops out at maybe 10%. Sometimes there are no bars at all displayed on it! Now, I don't want to have to keep SysPrefs open to be reassured about the volume level. Is there some mysterious independent volume control for QT7 that I don't have adjusted?
Also, it's annoying that whenever I create a mov file with QT7, that file (which has a QT icon), opens with Real Player. Huh? I unclicked the box in Real Player prefs that has it open QT media types, and it still does that. I don't want to use Real Player for this! Of course, I can always change the way the file opens by going into Get Info, but it's just an annoyance to have to always do that. |

I don't know about the volume control settings.
There's several ways to fix the "open with..." issue. If you right-click on any .mov file, what shows as the default for Open with... If the default is NOT Quicktime Player 7, then Get Info on that .mov file. under Open With drop down, choose Quicktime Player 7, then check the box "Change All" That should fix all your existing .mov files, and (probably) newly created .mov files, too. |

Ah, "Change All". That's the ticket. Works great. Thanks!
Now about the VU meter ... |
