System asking permission: every morning?

for the past week or so, every time I wake the Mac Pro from sleep, log in, I get a little screen asking for admin credentials...the System asking permission to change something (what, it doesn't say).

I thought to fire up console today and around the time I logged in it says:

11/1/12 7:09:47.687 AM com.apple.PassXPCService[11366]: PAPassValidator: _signatureIsValid failed to load signature file

Anyone know what this is about? How to shut it off or otherwise resolve it? "PAPass" doesn't ring any bells for me.

Thank you!

I googled and didn't find anything. Did you see something of interest, vanakaru?

anything to actually share about this, vanakaru? I googled, too but don't see anything that actually says what it is or how to stop it.

If you can shine a light on this, thank you for doing so!

that stuff is so far out of my wheelhouse the Hubble can't see it.

to my knowledge I didn't create anything of that XPC nature...I'm pretty darn sure I'd remember doing something like that procedure.

thank you!

Sorry, I wasn't clear. That's directions for developers to write programs creating XPC Services. I wasn't suggesting that you had done that.

But what is relevant on that page is the description of what XPC Services are. It says:

There are two main reasons to use XPC services: privilege separation and stability.

So, to say it another way, XPC services allow programs to talk between themselves (interprocess communication) and perform work on behalf of an application.

In other words, some app, either installed by you or perhaps an app that comes bundled with the OS, is using an XPC service to communicate with another app.

The error message that you told us about says:
Code:
11/1/12 7:09:47.687 AM com.apple.PassXPCService[11366]: PAPassValidator: _signatureIsValid failed to load signature file
From that you can glean that it is an Apple service (from com.apple.PassXPCService), and you can guess some things as well. I don't really know what it is, but I suspect (possibly for no reason) that it is something related to SyncServices. Perhaps try the directions here: Mac OS X: Resetting the SyncServices folder

Thanks, Trevor...I just followed the instructions at the link you supplied (for Mt Lion).

Nothing much happened that I could see; presumably I'll stop seeing the request for Admin credentials I mentioned in my original post...I don't do any syncing; perhaps something on my mac has a secret life?

;-)

Remember that it's only my guess that it's related to SyncServices. I certainly hope that resetting the SyncServices folder fixes the problem of a request for Admin credentials every morning, but if it doesn't then perhaps my guess is wrong.

I get it. I know it's only your guess..I'm cool with that. It does appear to be related to iTunes because I see some kind of iTunes window along with it...NOT my music and Podcasts window but another one looks like one you'd see for buying stuff..

sheesh!
