Unable to Enable File Sharing

Mac Geniuses,

I am in this strange situation where I can't enable "File Sharing" on my macbook pro,
either by selecting the SystemPreferences > Sharing > File Sharing
or using the terminal commands
cd /System/Library/CoreServices/AppleFileServer.app/Contents/MacOS
sudo ./AppleFileServer

When I click on File Sharing checkbox, it just doesn't click no matter what. Even with FireWall turned off

Any idea whats going on? All I want to do is to make some folders available to my iMac from this MBP...

Configuration: latest Mountain Lion, with 2011 macbook pro.

Thanks for the help!

Reddy

Odd. Is your account the Admin account and of course you clicked the Padlock Icon to allow changes and entered your password? I would start by running Repair Disk Permissions from Disk Utility. It is in an Application subfolder called Utilities. It can also be run from booting off the emergency recovery partition Starting up from Command + R. Sometimes you get better results this way and you can also run Disk Repair when booted off the partition.

Or you can to it from Start up Disk... Full Monty details below:
