Apple wireless keyboard not connecting

I have Magic Mouse and Bluetooth keyboard from Apple. Both have been working fine, until now. Mouse still works, and keyboard was working fine last time I used it, but now it isn't.

KB was showing up as paired but not connected, and I couldn't get it to connect. Restarted, no change. Replaced batteries, no change. Removed from Bluetooth prefs, then tried to re-add, but Mac just kept searching for Bluetooth devices and couldn't find any. Trashed com.apple.bluetooth.plist, restarted, no change.

Magic Mouse still works after all this.

Something like this happened a while back, and a very simple thing seemed to fix it (I seem to recall it was a restart, but not sure).

Ideas?

MBP 13 2011, OS 10.6.8

I should also point out that, when I turn the keyboard on, the LED glows for a few seconds, then turns off. But it doesn't go into blinking mode, and if I understand correctly, blinking mode should happen because that means it's signaling that the keyboard is available to be paired.
