Can windows users restore split files?
Are windows users able restore split files? (ie. larger files split into parts with the 'split' command in terminal)
Or is it necessary to prepare them with one of their proprietary formats like rar? I'm planning on sending a 23GB file in parts but one of the recipients may only have windows. |

you may be better off using .rar format and use winrar to join parts on PC.

`split` does nothing special, it just dices & slices by lines or bytes. Windows users can simply use the copy command (or any of the thousands of freeware joiners) but they will need to be command-prompt fluent. If this is a binary file then you will need to add binary options at both ends.
A more serious issue is the mechanics of moving 23Gb of data around. It's going to take several thousand emails at 10Mb each so that method is out. Dropbox will take a while too. Bit Torrent would probably be your best bet and would reduce the outward bandwidth if everyone uses it at the same time. You also wouldn't have to split the file up. |
