Lion can't access NAS folders
Hello
I'm using a local NAS server (PLANET NAS-7201 device) and I'm able to access its folders through Mac mini running Leopard (or Snow Leopard) but not Lion. Google search revealed that it's a problem of Lion's DHX authentication upgraded to DHX2 and many NAS devices are affected by this. The best solution is to upgrade the NAS' firmware which is compatible with DHX2 but most of the NAS devices have no such firmware. For example, my NAS device is 2009 make and its manufacturer doesn't release any firmware updates anymore. A recommended fix is to create and modify com.apple.AppleShareClient.plist (under /Library/Preferences) so that Lion can access in older DHX authentication. I've tried that fix but it didn't work, when I browse to the NAS, Finder pops up a "connect as" dialog ; I enter the admin authentication and here is the result: (sorry it's not English) ![]() I guess that fix is about AFP. My NAS device doesn't seem to have something called "AFP", but only Windows, FTP and NFS: ![]() How can I fix Lion so that it connects this NAS device? Thanks.

I don't have one of those NASs, but I'd use this to connect to it:
your Mac's Go menu > Connect to Server > type in cifs://IP_of_NAS_here It should ask for your username and password. |

Hello
I've tried it now but it didn't let me select a folder to connect to. The folders inside the NAS are not selectable. Thanks.

Does that NAS have AFP ( Apple File Protocol) not sure if it does !
So the DHX Auth fix will not work as this is related to AFP i think. Try connecting using Connect to Server > smb://IP_address/share_name |

Hello,
using Connect to Server > smb://IP_address/share_name results in the same, unselectable folders (those with circles with red line) Thanks.

Are you connecting as an authenticated user or just Guest.
Have you checked all permissions on shares ? Overall Apple are using SMB2 protocol as default and i bet your NAS is SMB1 So you may need to apply this fix to Lion. Personally if you Mac supports Mountain Lion i would use that. Lion is a car crash OS. In fact ML may not help your issues ! http://twasink.net/2012/04/12/fixing...with-osx-lion/ But personally i would use these in the /etc/sysctl.conf file net.smb.fs.kern_deprecatePreXPServers=0 net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=1 Footnote get a free copy of Textwrangler to create your file. In the Share Management page/section of the NAS setup, what is set to be shared?
From the results you had already (with cifs and smb), I don't think the connection protocol is the issue. |

Hello
Thank you for the hints. I've applied the tip given in Twasink.net (added those 2 lines into /etct/sysctl.conf) , restarted but the folders at NAS are still not accessable. In the Share Management page/section of the NAS setup, there are 3 folders to be shared. One is called "public" the others are for IP Cameras respectively. I have tried adding all users including "guest-share" with writable grants to the public folder to see if Mac mini Lion could access but no, even then it could not ever access. Here's the folder access setup window: ![]() To remind the situation with other OSes, I'd like to say once more that my other Mac mini with S.Leo can perfectly access all folders in NAS. I paid a lot of money for the NAS device so I want to keep using it.

In the manual, only these are listed as the supported Network Protocols: TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, P2P, SMB So I think AFP is not supported. But S.Leopard can connect, then it might mean that S. Leopard can use SMB whereas Lion cannot. A bit tricky?

There were changes in SMB support in Lion and Mountain Lion, but SMB is most definitely still supported in those later operating systems. Some further information: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4829 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4697 http://www.zdnet.com/samba-growing-p...on-7000001353/ Trevor

Here's a response from Planet-
Kindly be informed the NAS-7201 is old model with old chipset and not support Mountain Lion. Due to the model is phase out a long time ago and do not maintain it with new firmware and software, hope you can understand. Thanks. |

You could mount it using NFS then.
http://www.bresink.de/osx/NFSManager.html will help if unfamiliar with NFS drive mounting and terminal commands. |
