secure web page not behaving
hi all,
i use internet banking and i have a permissions issue that i cannot resolve, there's issues using access from my MacBook but not my iPhone or work computer which isolates the issue to the one machine. Can anyone tell me how to remove the permissions associated with the page as i can't find the culprit, restarting, repairing permissions, removing local storage etc. all yeilds nothing. I'm sure it's simple but i'm at a loss. thanks in advance, paul. |

There are no permissions associated with a website. Permissions are only for files you saved on your own computer.
Does the issue only happen with one browser? I assume you use Safari, get Chrome and try loading the same website. |

i tried chrome (which is already installed) and have no issue at all, so it's related to safari. should i delete the browser and reinstall? |

No, don't delete Safari. Whether you use Safari or not is up to you, but keep it on your computer. Software Update can do strange things when applications that it expects as a default part of the OS are summarily removed.
In Safari, what do you have checked in Preferences > Security? Does your bank use pop-up windows, for example? The default settings of Safari blocks pop-up windows because they are so often a part of annoying advertisements at spammish websites, but bank websites often use them too. There's a lesson there for bank website designers, but they will probably never learn that lesson. Trevor

Also check if you have a web proxy configured in Network Preferences. Safari obeys these proxy prefs, but other browsers don't (as far as I know).

Trevor,
i have all the preferences checked including blocking pop ups, i unchecked it and tried the page with the same behaviour so i checked it again. my bank does use pop ups but you can click to activate what you need with them disabled. Hayne, there is nothing ticked in the protocol box in WI-FI > Proxies, and nothing in the bypass settings box either, was that where you meant for me to look? thanks for the help. paul. |

Sounds like you looked at the right thing re proxies.
Check if there are any relevant messages in the logs - use the "Console" application (under /Application/Utilities)

I occasionally get this. Is it a user agent issue?
When I do get an issue, I revert to Firefox and things tend to work then.
