iPod Classic iMac Lion Desktop Issue

This is driving me nuts. When I open the iPod desktop Icon only 10% of the material on the iPod is showing up. There are about 60 songs, and 20 audiobooks and when iPod is opened via desktop only 6 audio books are showing up on the iPod. However, when I access the iPod via iTunes all selection are visible.

Why won't the iMac show the actual contents of the iPod when opened from the desktop.
