2006 intel-imac hd replacement not showing
Hi, have eventually got round to replacing the dead 250gb hard disk in my 'first' intel-imac 2006 with a Sata 2 500gb WD Caviar Black.
After a tortuous process, got the thing 'in', but the mac-osx installer offers up nothing when asking where to install Osx - Obviously a problem. (the 3 second ticking noise is also worrying). If I use Disk Utility : It sees the Hard Drive:- However All Options Verify/Repair /Permissions/Disk are 'greyed out' There is the option to erase etc. however. connection bus Serial ATA 2 connection Internal write status read/write S..M.A.R.T: Verified Partiton Map Scheme GUID Partition Table However All Options Verify/Repair /Permissions/Disk are 'greyed out' Any Advice is MUCH APPRECIATED Thanks. |

There's nothing to repair, likely because you haven't partitioned the hard drive yet.
Try this. Boot to the installer. Run Disk Utility. Select your hard drive (the line with the manufacturer's info) Click the Partition tab. Choose the Volume Scheme drop-down, then choose 1 Partition. Name your partition, if you like. The screen should also show that you are formatting "Mac OS Extended (journaled) Near the bottom right corner - click the Apply button, and click OK to format your hard drive. When that completes, Quit Disk Utility, and you should be able to continue on with the OS X install. |

DeltaMac, Thanks very much, have 'erased' and am now installing osx.
Was amazed the install actually worked - so was expecting problems. wen osx is installed will migrate stuff from my old Power G5. Cheers |

Drives do not come formatted from the Mac so the first thing you usually need to do internal or external is format them.
