Have you seen this post over at Doug's AppleScripts? You could either go the launchd route or (I assume) attach the script to an iCal/Calendar event.

I think I remember that WiFi sync occurs on a schedule based on when you first initiated a sync. So, if you want to sync every morning at 5:00, so it's all done beore you get up in the morning, wake up one morning and force a sync at that time.

The launchd route is likely to be more reliable.

Is that the WiFi sync or the automatic iCloud backup (which is supposedly dependent on WiFi and charging being present)? My iOS devices never sync on their own, that's why I ask.

I thought it was WiFi sync, but I haven't used it in quite a while so I'm not sure. I didn't think iCloud backup worked on a schedule; I thought it just relied on the WiFi and locked criteria and then just once a day.

I'm pretty certain the WiFi sync only occurs when the user hits the Sync button in iTunes. That's certainly the case with my devices, and I'm not seeing anything in the iTunes Preferences or the Summary tab for a device indicating a way to have it automatically sync.

But you're correct about the iCloud backups not being on a schedule. My earlier post was self-contradicting since I referenced the charging and WiFi requirements necessary for iCloud backups which would likely negate scheduled behavior.

Now that I think more about this I do remember having to manually click the sync button, though I also remember being annoyed that it didn't sync automatically like I thought it was supposed to. Maybe that was indeed a misconception about the sync process from the start. I only ever really used that for podcasts and Instacast handles that now.
