Problem with Messages
I have a problem with the image that i set in my buddies window in messages. It will not stay there through a restart.
I set up another user a/c to see if i could reproduce the problem & i cannot - it stays in the other user a/c , so the problem rests in my user a/c. I have deleted all ichat/messages pref files from ~/library/prefs. I have deleted all cache files for ichat/messages I have deleted all ~/library/messages files None of this makes any difference. When i put the pic back in, its removed again on a restart. ( i also tried using one of the default pics, thinking my image might have a problem, but the same thing happens ) I have run out of ideas ! Can anyone suggest where to go from here ? Its not the greatest of problems, but it sure is frustrating. One strange thing i have noticed is that no matter which pref files etc are deleted, when clicking on the picture window, it retains all of the 'recent' pictures from before. I cannot find where these are stored. Last edited by ricede; 10-09-2012 at 01:34 PM. Reason: Added last comment. |

This is a pretty strange issues, though seems more like a bug.
iMessage isn't just another messaging platform like the others, it basically ties your Mac and iOS devices into a single unified ecosystem. If you wish to use the old iChat interface you can hit Command-1 (or select Window -> Buddies) and you'll see a buddy list like iChat's. From there, if you double-click on a contact, you'll be taken back to that right-hand conversation pane, ready to chat with that person. I hope it helps. |

It is precisely in the Command + 1 window that the problem occurs. I dont think it is a Mountain Lion bug because i know many machines running the same program who dont have this problem.
As i said in the initial post - "I set up another user a/c to see if i could reproduce the problem & i cannot" Somewhere in my home library there must be a corrupted file , i just cant find it. Incidentally i found how to remove the recent pictures - its just a question of opening the recent pics window, highlighting one image and then hitting Command X. One can only remove them one at a time. Last edited by ricede; 10-10-2012 at 03:59 AM. Reason: Added how to remove recent pics |
