How to get contact photo to camera roll?

Very frustrating, but for some reason, my photos that I took of friends are not on my camera roll, but the picture is next to their contact. This makes no sense. I have no idea how I lost these pictures in my camera roll. How do I get them either back to the camera roll or to my mac?

Hi is it possible that you restored your iphone with iTunes to factory settings? This is how I remember loosing my camera roll photos from my ipad a long time ago. I also have some of my contacts featuring photos from the camera roll. the contact photos still show despite the camera roll ones being lost. i do not think there is away to bring back photos from contacts to camera roll.
