Question ACL found but not expected??

Hi all,

I need some help, please. I'm running 10.5.5 on a MacPro and had various "strange" messages when running Disk Utility, repairing permissions.
By reinstalling from the combo-updater, a number of them seem to have been corrected. But there are an immense number of messages like this one:

ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root/Library/Preferences".
ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root/Library".
ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root".
ACL found but not expected on "System/Library/User Template/Non_localized/Sites".

There are about 830 lines like these.

And, almost at the end there is this one:

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

What's going on? And, more importantly, what can and should I do about it?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Anytime you get a strange error message, your first instinct should be to google for it - probably lots of other people have experienced this same message and there will be discussion about it.

The same is true in this case - I think you will find discussion of this message in these forums.

Thanks for nipping this attempt at starting a discussion right in the bud. You have set the record straight. Anytime we want to use a forum, we should avoid this one, right?

The message "ACL found but not expected" is to be ... expected in Leopard.

>> I'm running 10.5.5

Perhaps consider downloading and installing these 2 updates from Apple support:

MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.8.dmg
SecUpd2010-001.dmg

As mentioned, there are already many discussions on this topic in this very forum. Hayne politely pointed out how you could find those discussions that exist.

Adding another discussion to those already there wastes the time of people like hayne, Hal, and benwiggy who have kindly donated a great deal of their time for free in the past, and who continue to donate a great deal of their time now. On the other hand, snotty comments made to those people like hayne who donate their time on this and other forums tends to be counterproductive.
