Cambria, Calibri Fonts missing from Font Book, Font libraries?

Hi All - First post here, and apologies if this ends up being something very easy to fix. I recently discovered while working on a paper with a friend that in Word 2008 for Mac, Cambria was displaying as Times New Roman, and Calibri was displaying as Arial - I hadn't noticed previously, and only noted it at the time because our pagination was different as we tried to edit the paper. Unfortunately, this means I can't target a time or event that might have triggered the problem, though I know at one point I did have appropriate Cambria and Calibri fonts. In order to investigate the problem, I looked into Font Book, which does not show Cambria or Calibri, and I looked into my Font library folder (both System and regular Library) with no luck. A search of my computer for Cambria does not bring up a font file. Furthermore, when I open Text Edit, these fonts are not available as options.

I guess I'm wondering how they ended up being deleted (a known bug with a Mac Word 2008 update? OS X update? something?) and how/if I can restore them without uninstalling/reinstalling - it's something I want to avoid if I can b/c I don't readily have access to another computer with a CD drive that I can use to reinstall the software. Rebooting has not helped this problem. I'm on a MacBook Air, OS X 10.6.8, with most recent updates installed. Mac Word 2008 is version 12.3.5 (up to date according to MS Updater). I suppose it may ultimately come down to reinstalling Word since they are Microsoft fonts...

Would greatly appreciate any thoughts.

I believe that Office 2008 installs fonts into a non-standard location. Look in /Library/Fonts/Microsoft. more information

Well, if they are really not on your computer any more, you'll have to reinstall from somewhere. I haven't been able to find a legitimate download location for Cambria or Calibri, but there may be one somewhere. If you can't find a legit place to download the fonts, then you're back to installing them from your Office 2008 CD, which of course will require a connected optical drive.

Of course, if you use Time Machine, or have another good backup from when Cambria and Calibri were installed on your hard drive, you can restore them from your backup.

You could download the free trial for the latest version of MS Office from the Mactopia.com website. that seems legit to me.
