iPod Touch update to iOS 6.0.1 - now apps crash

Hi, I am new to this forum, I have the flowing problem and hope someone could give me a hand.

I recently updated my iPod Touch 4 from iOS 5 to iOS 6. Now the default apps (Contacts, Calendars, even Settings) along with other apps will crash after working for some minutes.

I already restarted my ipod (turn off-turn on) but this did not fix the issue. Also, the battery now drains very quickly and in 4 hours its gone (it used to last more than 24 hours). The ipod is also always warm when touched at the back.

What is going on?!
