My MBP C2D screen is fine still, haven't noticed any warpage. I carry mine around in a backpack if that makes any difference.

My new macbook pro 17" has exactly the same thing. It's annoying, but ive learned to live with all the imperfections seeing as this is my second mbp and i had to fight hard to get the first replaced by apple. My first macbook pro 17" (purchased around christmas time) had a keyboard that was mounted out of alignment. It was really annoying, the gap between the fron line of keys and the aluminium case was double on one side what it was on the other. As a result, the backlight didnt seem to work properly (something i realised after seeing the replacement). the screen also made an irritating clicking noise whenever it moved slightly - really annoying when working in a quiet room. I wasnt able to get back to the store in time for the 14 day replacement period, but busy uni work meant i couldnt hand it in to be repaired. After lots of ringing and persuading, and dealing with plenty of rude apple staff, i found that the law (in the UK)states that if a product is faulty, the consumer has a right to demand a replacement within the first sixth months of purchase, and finally managed to claim a new mbp. The new one is much closer to perfect, but the lid warps a bit (ironically the first one had loads of other annoying imperfections but one of the straightest lids i've seen), and a few other small issues (like karnifax's mbp). But ive decided to try and stop being so precious about my laptop. Its hard not to be when i've spent so much cash on it, but ive looked at as many mbps as i can and i've found that apple's quality control generally is pretty shoddy. If you look hard enough you'll find loads of annoying little flaws on any mbp. As far as i've seen, NONE of them are perfect! At least my new mbp is pretty good as they go, so i'm going to stick with it. |

I got my TiBook 5 years ago. From Taiwan. The corners of the lid are higher than they should be, made more noticeable by the left rubber ridge thingie having deteriorated. Whatever. I just chalk it up to age. It's not nearly as noticeable as the front edge paint corrosion (that makes the Star Wars "used" look seem brand new).

Well, my MacBook Pro is being repaired for LCD leakage, and I hope I don't encounter the same problem.

I am having the same problem with my 15" that I bought in December, however, it's in the middle and is HIGHLY noticeable. I took it in and they said they'd charge me $800 to fix it (however, they wrote on the case document to tell the repair people NOT to fix it). Along with the CD drive being too loud, they printed this out on my case, saying that it was caused by accident. I do carry my MacBook Pro around, but it's usually in a case which only carries the notebook in that section, and at home. it just sits on the bed or desk.

i have a MBP 15" as well... same issue. but heres the interesting thing: when i first got this thing, i was practically afraid to use it because im rather accident prone. so i bought one of them speck cases to keep it from getting scratched. no problems whatsoever. looked pretty cool as a matter of fact. but i grew used to the fact that minor scratches happen and i shouldnt be such a baby about it. nothing was warped at all. it was only until after i started using the system without the speck case that the lid started to warp. i dont know if thats of any help to anyone but maybe the speck case could be a variable in the warping problem.

I heard the warping has to do with heat...well ive just got my new mbp 15 from apple online a day or 3 ago, and i already notice the right side of the screen is warped up slightly, but very visibly! i am very dissapointed, one big reason i bought a mac is for the design of it which is nothing if the lines arent straight, and also i have been extremely careful with it so it wouldnt get damaged, but now it already seems like its not new anymore at all.
a few times ive left it closed while it was powered on, and i planned to use it as a desktop replacement with external inputs and monitor, so then it will be closed while on as well. now that ive noticed this tho, im afraid to use it! is this really normal? i mean the new mbp has been out for a while now so such a bad problem should have been fixed by now, especially in the new santa rosa books. has anyone gotten a replacement due to screen warping? |

Wow, it seems the new Santa Rosa MacBook Pros are bringing back some of the problems with the first generation of MBP's. I hear reports of overheating on some forums, and the issue with the thermal paste seems to be resurfacing as well. And now the lid warping? I'm kind of happy I bought mine when I did. (Nov 2006)

This thread has me paranoid now.
![]() I just purchased a 15.4" MBP about a week ago. Looking at it closely, the right side is just barely higher than the rest. It's very minor so no biggie, but I'm worried it will get worse. I took pictures incase it does so I have a way to show that it's not a "part of the design" and happened over time. Just curious, is there anyone out there with a new MBP that doesn't have any warping issues? A little bit won't bother me but if it gets anything like in some of the pictures I've seen, that might get annoying. =P I might just leave the screen slightly cracked open when I'm not using it instead of latching it... sigh, paranoid, I know... but just paying a pretty penny (I'm a poor college student) for a notebook I hate problems like this. I voted yes, because my lid is very, very slightly warped, but honestly, it works fine, looks fine, and I wouldn't have noticed it except for the big issue people are making out of it. Not to say it isn't serious with other folks' machines, but mine's fine.
Now the power brick that almost set fire to my house last week is another story.... It's now been one week and my Applecare replacement brick still isn't here. I scrambled to get one and found one in town -- but not at the 3 Apple stores. Yep, I have 3 Apple stores in driving range, and 2 don't stock it [the children who run it claim ...]. The Northpoint store didn't even answer their phone in the middle of a Monday, so I can't tell ya what they stock, and I'm never shopping there.

I have a MBP 15"
I bought it just before the SR range of the MBPs came out (oh how annoyed i was) I have noticed a little warping on the left side of my lid when closed (raises up a little more than the right) It doesn't really bother me too much although it is a little annoying if i catch sight of it like this. I was told replacing the whole plastic case would only be up to around £60ish so i may go for that option once i've used it a little more. I just got it back from applecare where i had the main logic board entirely replaced because i was experiencing graphic related problems so as long as it works i don't really mind, unless it becomes more and more warped over time. (Starting to have doubts about getting the MBP, i could've got a windows laptop with a larger HDD, more graphics memory and the same speed processor and same RAM) |

Hey, I bought the case from www.macbook-case.com.
Here is the picture of it. ![]() I love it! You gotta see it for yourself. No Doubt! I bought this to protect my Mac, but I got impressed by look. It looks plain if you compare it with other brand, but because of the simple design, it doesn't ruin the Apple design and looks fantastic! MacBook Pro Case |

macbook bent after nearly a year old.
The reason I found these forums is because of the fact that I have just noticed that my macbook lid( the little white one that supposedly doesn't warp is warped.)
I't's almost a year old and still under warranty so I'm takin it back. The reason being that it has been fine up till now and the other night it was running pretty hot which I believe may have caused it. New Macbook 4 me thanks. |

War page
I have a 4 year old Mac Pro that had a cracked bezel at the hinge area. I paid $300 to have Mac fix everything that was broken with the computer (a lot) and was happy to have a brand new lid, straight as can be. It' been maybe 3 weeks and there is now serious warpage of the lid. The problem is definitely more than cosmetic! I had a movie playing and shut the lid for a moment (fully latched) but the sound continued. This is not just a problem with the new thin models. Shouldn't we expect much better quality control from Mac? Why are we spending all this money for a product that looks cool (for a while) but fails so quickly?
