I don't mean to gloat, but

My wife's just taken possession of her new Dell laptop. It's her third in the same time that I've had my 2009 MacBook.
The buttons fell off the first one, and even though I added more RAM it was painfully slow on XP and the little hard drive was soon filled.
The second one has taken something of a beating, in fairness, and after one drop-on-the-floor too many, the screen has cracked. (Most of the falls were classic power lead tripping accidents. I've been helpfully showing her the Magnetic power connector on the MB.)

She said she wanted to buy another one, because she was used to them. The new one, of course, has Windows 8, and she's completely frustrated.
It also keeps blowing the fans hard, which I'm a little suspicious of. However, I'm "not allowed to help".

I still love my 2009 MB -- one of the last with FireWire. It's been working well with 4Gb, though I'm about to test the dizzy un-tested heights of 6Gb. Along with the 256Gb SSD I put it, I can see me using it for some time to come.
The ability to replace or improve on existing components, when new technologies come along, is why I plumbed for the Mini as my desktop Mac. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I need to replace the laptop.
