Well, to get the BBC for the kids, in the UK I imagine? Would that be correct? That and the added security in general, as I perceive it.

Am I on the right track?

I have used them a lot for my clients that travel. £5 a month

(I am lucky enough to have 22 UK Endpoints to choose from as i work in IT ;-)

Added security ? using a VPN....I am not so convinced overall.
It will however hide all your "activity" from your local ISP while using VPN as it is and encrypted channel...not that you are doing anything wrong of course....wink ;-)

We are cut off from quite a lot here, which I clearly won't go into. My kids got addicted to the Cbeebies when they spent July in Blighty and they even started speaking some English, so I want to encourage that, as you can imagine!

Ok understood.

This will serve you well but just remember it is 1 device at a time unless you have a good router which can do LAN to LAN VPN and routing at the edge of network.

ie. All traffic from your entire network is routed through VPN.
You do get more latency on your connection but ISP will not be able to see what is going on at all just the amount of bandwidth you are using.....they cannot even use Layer 7 ( Deep packet inspection ) to see what kind of traffic is flowing over VPN.

I have my endpoints setup on our iPads which is excellent as kids can watch iPlayer/Channel 4 on demand without using my laptop when we are away.

Witopia does what you want - and on its basic service, allows 2 devices to be connected at a time. They have "end points" all over the world.

I recently used it when traveling in Europe, to get around the restrictions with Netflex that normally prohibit one from using it outside the U.S. Worked great!

They also let you buy a month at a time, so you can sort of check it out before committing to a longer period.

Agentx, when you mention Endpoints as a plural, does that mean you have several subscriptions to achieve multiple Endpoints? It's only really me and, say, one of the several iPads in the house that need this. Me for my banking and a little iPlayer and one for the kids to get the Cbeebies. What would you recommend and from which provider?

Sorry for the dumb question, but how can I check if my router will do this? It is a Billion modem, working with a Linksys E3200 dual band router.

Thanks again!

So how is your network done ?

Billion acting as a modem and passing connection to link-sys which does all routing function ?

What billion router ?

It is unlikely that any consumer grade kit will do what I suggested.

The Billiopn is just the crap dished out by the ISP here and the label just says "Billion: 802.11g ADSL2". Pretty low end, by the look of it.

Any suggestions for a better one?

This site is owned by some Viking bloke and is the only place I know to get "better" kit from someone (certainly the only expat) who seems to have a clue what they are doing and talking about. Would you mind having a look at the link and making a suggestion..?

Any suggestion for a VPN provider at all?

I tend to advise anyone wAnting to goto the next level to get a Draytek 2830n or 2850n.
We use them for small companies and power home users. They have a lot of functionaility per buck but quite complicated.

Problem is maybe hard to get in your region.

Btw No link

As I said they are all much of a muchness and either suggestions should work for you.
It is monthly so I suggest sign up and test for a month and see if you are going to need new network hardware to take this to next level.
