A propos of nothing....

There was a thread here for a while about raising kids. And though my 3 range in age from 44 to 50, I still remember some of their antics from 40 years ago. Kids have steel trap memories, so my youngest daughter had memorized all the nursery rhymes we'd spouted at her. One of her favorite games was "tell me a poem, daddy". I'd do it wrong on purpose, and she'd correct me. Her favorite was Little Miss Muffet. I'd say:

Quote:
Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey, when
a spide came along her and sat side bedown her
and frightened Miss Waifet amuff.

She'd say "Nooooo, Daddy" and reel it off correctly for me. Don't know why that occurred to me this morning. A flashback, I guess.

Perhaps the holiday season? It is a nostalgic time of year. Coincidentally, I saw this as I was about to post in that thread.

I wish I remembered forty years ago better. My kids ask for stories of my childhood, and they don't like repeats. But I suspect I'll remember their stories better than my own.

If they don't remember, can't you just make it up?

Sometimes when the kids were young and shy, I'd have a tough time getting them to come from behind my legs to talk with someone they already knew but hadn't seen in a while.

Trying to get the kid to open up, I'd have to resort to saying something incorrect (like a wrong name or wrong age). That would be SURE to get a "Noooo, Daddy, I'm Ken, not Hanna! That's my sister!"

And then they were talking!
