GTX 580 in Early 2009 Mac Pro
Hello All
It has been a while since I last posted on here, but I thought I would post some information that does not seem to be widely available. I recently spotted, and took the risk of buying, the following graphics card off eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2512091422...84.m1497.l2649 I have installed the card this morning, and it appears to work well. I have yet to really stress test it, and the only observation I have so far is that loading the card makes some of the fans run at a higher rpm than they would have previously. I just thought I would post this in case someone with a Mac Pro was wondering whether such cards worked, or whether the GTX 285 really was the end of the line for graphics upgrades on these machines. Mark

For questions about these types of things, I'd recommend Accelerate Your Mac! http://xlr8yourmac.com and Bare Feats http://barefeats.com
Trevor [moved to OS Xperiences, as thread is not related to a problem or question.]

I have now got my hands on a couple of 6 pin PCI Express power splitter cables, and I have now had the old GTX 285 (Slot 1) and the new GTX 580 (Slot 2) crunching numbers via BOINC for 48 hours straight without issue.
Just in case anyone is even remotely interested!
