Question Extacting archive created by hfspax

Hi.

I'm trying to extract files from an archive created by hfspax a long time ago (2001). If I remember correctly hfspax was a custom pax that handled resource forks etc. for Mac systems on PPCs. I think it was binary so it won't run on my Intel mac anyways.

I've tried pax and ditto --rsrc with no luck on my Intel based mac.

I get this error:

Code:
/_DS_Store/..namedfork/finf: Not a directory
After 3 or so of these error statements, ditto and/or pax craps out.

Googling hasn't yielded anything so far. Any suggestions on how to get the files out of this pax archive would be appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.

Unhappy

Hello everyone.

Hmmmm. Is there really no one who can help me get the documents extracted out of this old pax archive that was created by hfspax? I still can't find anything on Google that works.

Would anyone have a copy of hfspax? Could someone post it or email it to me?

Would have the code that I could try and compile?

Thanks again.

Finding the binary didn't take long - all you really need is a PPC emulator (or an eMac) and a copy of 10.1 / 10.2 (which also shouldn't be difficult).

Cool. Would you mind sharing the link?

Every download link I tested (before I posted the question here) was broken.

I have an old Powerbook that I can reinstall Panther. So I have the ability to run PPC code.

Is there a good PPC emulator that can run on ML (10.8)?

Then you don't need the emulator. Spend a day unpacking the archives and copying everything to disk images. Then you don't need hfspax anymore.

Just a quick update.

It's working great! It is extracting all the files in proper the original directory structure.

I'm getting some errors due to file modification times on resourceforks but that doesn't matter.

Thanks again for directing me to the archive.
