Writing program

I'm look for a phrase finder or phrase generator program I can work with while writing on the computer (in TextEdit, Pages for example) Something that will give a list of alternate phrases I can use similar to what a thesaurus can do for individual words. Anyone know of anything like this available on the mac platform? Thanks,

MS Word has a grammar checker that will suggest correction or adaption of phrasing that the checker considers too complex, or wrong case, or active compared to passive voice, etc. Occasionally, alternate phrases might appear as a corrective choice.
But, listing alternate phrases would be really challenging to program, and prone to misinterpretation, and lots of other traps.
For example, how could a program like that know the difference between creative writing and technical writing?
