System preferences screensaver section is not responding
I changed the desktop picture a short while ago. Now when I go into the desktop and screensaver section again I get the spinning colour wheel and when I look at force quit the application isn't responding. Any idea
TIA |

What model of Mac?
What version of OS X? Have you tried restarting your Mac?

And so have you restarted your Mac?
And why haven't you updated to 10.8.2 (via Software Update) ?

10.8.2 has been out for several months now. You should have the option checked in Software Update preferences to automatically download updates and notify you.

I've updated the system and turned the mac off/on. Problem still the same. Here's a pic of the screen.

Go into your user folder, then to the Library folder. It's a hidden folder, so you can quickly get there through the Go menu, hold your Option key, and choose Library from that Go menu list.
Open the Caches folder, and delete the folder "com.apple.systempreferences", and the file "com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache" and "com.apple.preferencepanes.cache" Back to the Library, and open the Preferences folder. Delete the file "com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" And, log out, then log back in (or just restart your Mac) That should fix you up... After your log back in, try the system preferences out BEFORE you load all your other apps. |
