Change iCal Standard New Event Setting

Is there anyway to change the New Event text to automatically display the name of the calendar as it's own title every time? For example if I have a calendar named "Homework", whenever I d-click for a new event, is there a way to have it automatically say Homework right off the bat instead of manually editing it?

I'm assuming you're using iCal under the latest OS, Lion/10.7. Click the Calendar button at the top left of the iCal window, then drag your Homework calendar above the calendar that is currently the default. If you're using an earlier version of OS X, the technique will probably be similar (but I can't remember where all the calendars are listed).

Didn't seem to change anything. I've attached a picture of what I am looking for: here. On the left is the default action for iCal, on the right is what I would like it to look like whenever i add a "New Event" to a day on the calendar. Also, im running on 10.6.8

I should have thought to look for this sooner. Sorry. From the iCal menu, select Preferences. In the General section, there should be a pop-up menu for setting the default calendar.

Turns out the picture I viewed wasn't the Snow Leopard iCal preferences, it was for Lion.

Dragging the calendar up like we discussed earlier should work. What likely causes the issue is that your preferred calendar is part of a synced set of calendars that's listed lower than a different set. Like so:

On My Mac
Home
Work

Google Calendar (or whatever)
Homework
Activities

If the On My Mac calendars are active, then Home will be the default. You need no calendars listed above your Homework calendar. But it's difficult to confirm if this is the issue because your image showed what iCal is doing that you don't want, and that was already understood.

I guess I'm phrasing the question terribly. Let me explain it again: In the calendar part of the screen there are the days of the week, it's on the righthand side, and it takes up most of the screen. and you can double click it and it will add a colored bar with text inside that says "New Event". Can I modify my settings somehow so that automatically, instead of having the text say "New Event", can I have it be the name of the calendar group it is in, or something I can automatically match it to a calendar group or color or something?

Okay, gotcha. There's no way in the standard options to change the "New Event" text. What you may find helpful is to right click on Homework in your Calendar list. There should be an option called Get Info (or similar). In the Get Info window, you can choose a different color for the Homework calendar, thus enabling you to have it display as something more visually distinct.

One thing that may be helpful is you can right click on any event and duplicate it. Then you can drag the duplicate to another day. That may be more convenient than typing over "New Event."
