iPhone "security"

So, I plugged in my phone to get images off of it with Image Capture, and I noticed that even those the screen was locked and the screen wanted a password, that at no time when using Image Capture was I asked for a password. It seems like you can just connect a password connected iPhone to a computer and get at least photos - I'm guessing that is not all.

Is this standard?

I think it's standard if you plug it into your own computer. My iOS products all sync when I plug them in--always have.

There's this: http://www.macrumors.com/2013/02/25/...-1-documented/
Any connection between the two issues?

Definitely a feature, not a bug.
Try plugging your phone into a stranger's computer and see how much success you have...

Well, FWIW, my phone is not supposed to auto-sync with my Mac (I have it set up to not even start up itunes when I plug it in - I find iTunes very annoying) - but I will try to find someone else with a Mac (hard for me to do) and plug it in and see what it does as per the suggestions on here.

Thanks,
oa

Auto-sync or not - your iPhone is associated with your Mac through your AppleID account.
You can get to your files, because both devices share the same AppleID.
And, you won't be successful from another Mac that's not associated to your Apple account.

Well, that that's not true.

We happened to have a customer come in with a Mac so I was able to experiment. You're right, when the phone is locked, no entry. But if I enter the password on the phone, entry - without the computer being associated with my Apple account.

So, this is more or less a sane fashion for it to operate in and I'm satisfied with the results.

I think that's how it's supposed to work. The first time I connected my iPhone to my computer to extract videos, Image Capture told me that the phone was locked and I'd need to unlock it in order to gain access. Since that time, I no longer need to unlock it first.

I specifically ran this test. If that's how it worked, I would be unsatisfied because simply because I connected it to a machine once and entered the password, it's not reasonable for "it" to assume I ALWAYS want it to operate that way. For example - suppose the machine I connected to wasn't my machine? I just wanted to give someone photos, not access to my phone whenever they wanted. Anyway - the rest I ran was:

a). connect
b). enter password on phone
c). Use Image capture to get photos.
d). unplug phone
e). see if it asked for password

On item "e", it DID ask for my password again, which is what I want. So, all good there.

If it is not asking for it - maybe it is because as Delta suggested, the AppleID on the phone and the computer are the same.

Ah, that seems reasonable. Thanks for testing.
