how to auto-logout on lid close?

Hi folks. I'm trying to help a friend. Macbook OS X v 10.6.8. Her three kids all have different parental controls, times etc. We can't get the kids to log out consistently. Ok, ever. They do consistently close the lid. Is there a way to admin lock that every lid close is a logout? Please stop the fighting or the kids and the Macbook are getting thrown in the pool.

There is no way to logout when the lid is closed. But make sure auto-login is turned off, which will require an account password to log in or wake from sleep. I think this solves her problem, as nobody will be able to get into anyone else's account.

Thanks Chabig. Auto login was already turned off. Closing the lid puts it to sleep. And we set " require password immediately after sleep". But there's no way to stop them from changing that setting.

So that's the real issue. I never noticed that that setting is not protected by the admin password.

Doesn't the Security preference panel (that's where that setting is on 10.8) have a little lock icon at bottom left? If the panel is locked, I think you need to supply an admin password to change things. Presumably the kids don't have admin accounts.

It does Hayne. But that particular setting is not affected by the lock. I never noticed this before.

If the children's accounts are managed under Parental Controls, you should be able to prevent access to System Preferences or its settings.
