All Apps crashes after start

Hi guys,
Since a couple of days ago all Apps do crash when i start my iMac, Mac OS X 10.7.5. After they hang i force them to quit and usually they will start right the second time. It is not terrible but indeed a bit annoying.

I found in forum a similar crash bug with a CRI CRI CRI sign from Mac OSX 10.7.3 but is supposedly fixed by now. I don't have the CRI CRI sign either.

I did use Disk Utility and passed Onyx checker and everything seems right.

Any clues on how to check this problem or improve the OS from crashing at start?

Thanks!
S

If you post (as an attachment in plain text format) one of the crash logs then maybe someone can find a clue as to the cause.

Thanks Hayne
next time that happens i will post the text file.

Nevertheless, are there some general tips to avoid Apps crashing? I read in forums that many times it happens it has to do with fonts issues.

Cheers,

Not since OS 9...!!

Note that hanging and crashing are two different things.
Hanging is when the app stops responding -- which may be a temporary condition (i.e. it might sort itself out after "some" time). The Console logs may reveal the problem.
Crashing is when the app "unexpectedly quits". You get a nice crashlog listing everything that was going on in the computer at the time.

One app crashing might be caused by corrupt preferences;
A range of apps crashing might be caused by incompatibility with the OS, or some third-party patch to the system e.g. out-of-date version of Flip4Mac affecting apps that use QuickTime;
EVERY app crashing suggests a major OS issue -- possibly disk corruption, or again some third-party software that patches everything.

In addition, it is useful, at least to developers, to open the Activity Monitor, double-click the hung app, and in the window that opens, click on "Sample". This is a snapshot of what, if anything, the app is doing during the hang. Save that and send it in.

Thanks for pointing out the differences Benwiggy
Actually my Apps hangs on the Start up. It happens quite often. Then i quit the App and star all over again without problem. I suppose is not critical but certainly annoying.

Best,
S

Just to clarify, that's at "first launch", after a restart of your Mac, and it's the first time that you launched that app. A Quit/Launch, then everything is fine?
And, every app that you launch, does that the first time? (even something like TextEdit?)
Or, do you have a few apps that automatically launch during a restart of your Mac? (And you have to manually re-launch every app that should automatically load at login?) I don't like to have ANY apps auto-launch at login , but some folks operate that way just fine.

Yes that is correct. I don't know if that can be related that some Apps like Mail i have it configured from Account to start when the Mac turn on.

It is a random thing to be honest. Sometime all Apps will hang and sometime just Mail.

Thanks for your help and interest,

Does it help prevent the hangs if you remove Mail (and other apps) from Login Items?

If you create a brand new user account on your computer, log out of your current problematic account, and log in to the new user account, does this problem continue? Note that this is a troubleshooting step to narrow down the scope of the problem, and NOT a suggested solution.

Thanks for the tip. I will check that option too.

Just for the record and i know that is NOT like is should be done but i use the Administrator Account for working everyday. I know i shouldn't have but is my third Mac and i always say after buying it well when i have time i will create another account but always end up using Admin for everything.
