Don't they have the Mac part number on them, e.g. MxxxxxA..?

Something like the MacTracker app or the everymac website should be ideal.

I downloaded Mactracker, thanks, but doesn't have that detail.
I have the mac partnumber on the white envelope, could it be:
2Z603-7378-A

Here's a useful matrix for Intel models:

https://wiki.carleton.edu/display/it...+and+OEM+Media

The Carleton chart includes those 2Z*** numbers that appear on the gray discs--much more useful information than the "build numbers" in this Apple chart:

Great useful information, wish the Mini Mac's went back to 2005.

That particular part number appears to be an installer for a Mac mini.
The OS X version will be listed on the label, too.
Having that, you can then use Mactracker to deduce which mini model came with that particular OS X version. You can usually find out exactly which mini that will work in, or pin it down to at most, a couple of different models.
Final step would be to boot to that mini model with that DVD, to see if it brings up the installer without reporting an error like: "This software can't be installed on this computer"
and, then write on the disk label which particular Mac that did work with.
Without that final step of actually trying it, all you can do is similar to what I do: post-it note on the disk that says: "probably for a Macmini2,1 (untested)" - or whatever model of mini that you have.

There's really only two models of the mini from before 2006.
So, if you know that's what your restore disk belongs to, then not too tough to track that down.
