Keyboard Preferences
Hi guys,
I have a Keyboard Preference with the shortcut Cmd+< to cycle through "Open windows of the Same Application". It is a great shortcut for fast workflow. Now the same shortcut just moves to next open window but does not cycle thought all open windows which is the real use of it. Is there any way i could delete the preference files or restore this? It seems it got corrupted or so. Thanks and best! S

"Restore Defaults" at the bottom of System Preferences→Keyboard→Keyboard Shortcuts should reset everything. If you want to delete a preference file, the one to target is ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist. Either of those will reassign the action you describe to ⌘`, which is the default.
But just so we're clear, the default behavior of that key is: the rearmost open window of the current application that is in the current space becomes the frontmost window. Windows from other applications, windows that are in other spaces, and windows that have been minimized are not considered. A window that is in full-screen mode is considered to be in a space all by itself. Adding the shift key reverses the action: ⇧⌘` moves the frontmost open window of the current application on the current space just far enough back to put it behind all other such windows. If an application has open windows in multiple spaces, clicking on its Dock icon switches you to the next space that it has an open window on, and brings the frontmost such window all the way to the front. I notice that under Keyboard Shortcuts→Keyboard & Text Input, there are two configurable options with similar names: "Move focus to active or next window" (default ^F4) and "Move focus to next window" (default ⌘`). The former behaves as you describe, jumping from window to window without regard to application; the latter behaves like what you want, staying within the windows of the current application. (Both stick to only unminimized windows in the current space.) Is it possible that you re-defined the wrong one to be ⌘<? |
