Safari "Quit" is grayed out

any clue how this can even happen? I'm lookin right at safari, it's in the menu bar but cmd q doesn't work nor does pulling down File> Quit.

I mean, come on here! My journey thru the vortex of silly mac problems just keeps on goin.

How can a program not quit? no pending dialogue boxes open and I'm looking right at the browser window.

thanks for any clues or magic spells.

Close the Safari window.
Is Quit available then?

If no Safari windows are open (check in Safari's Window menu to make sure), then click on Safari in the Dock to open another Safari Window.
Is Quit available now?

BTW, the File menu will not have a Quit command. I'm assuming that you are using the Safari menu for Quit.
Another possibility is to right click the Safari icon in your Dock. You should be able to choose Quit from the dropdown menu.

My bad...I meant the menu that pulls down under the word "Safari."

In one case windows were open and visible. Quit under that scenario produces one of those "Windows open/are you sure" warnings.

In other cases, no Safari windows were open.

I will have to try the dock trick you mention. thanks!

You can also right-click on the Dock icon and select Quit.
