Pink monitor
I bought a Mac Mini a little over a month ago, and also a new Viewsonic LED screen. In that month's time, something odd has happened about 4 times. All of a sudden the screen is mostly pink. The display is still showing the Mac's screen, but all of the colors are essentially shades of pink. if I unplug the HDMI cable, and reconnect it, the colors return to normal.
Since the problem happens so intermittently, it is not practical to change anything other than the cable (which I currently don't have on hand, but plan to buy). Any thoughts on whether the Mac Mini or the screen or the cable are at fault here? Thanks, Steve |

Have you updated your Mini's firmware and run all system updates. There were some issues with HDMI that have been resolved.

Hmm
OK then I vote for the HDMI cable or a Display port cable... What Display inputs does your Viewsonic have.
monoprice.com would have Mini Display Port to (Display Port or HDMI) and of course HDMI cables. All in the $2 to $8 dollar range. Amazon has too. Monoprice is pretty reliable and very inexpensive. I think I would consider using the Display port connection. Of course you could buy one of each. Good Luck |

Don't get a DisplayPort connection, unless your Viewsonic actually has that.
Your mini will use a _Mini_ DisplayPort connector, then all you need is the connector for the input on your Viewsonic. If you are using the HDMI to DVI adapter that came with your mini, then that could be causing an issue, too. Monoprice is a good place to find the exact cable that you need, and eliminate the short adapters. So you could get the cable length that you need, with one end either HMDI or Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt, and the other end whatever you need - DVI or HDMI. If you can tell us exactly what inputs are available on the Viewsonic, we can show you what you might need from Monoprice. |

My monitor has 2 HDMI connectors and a VGA connector only. No DVI, no Display Port. I am currently using an HDMI to HDMI connection from the Mac Mini, no adapters.
Recommendations? |

TY. Two HDMI and VGA as you suggested. Just thought it was possible you mistook the full size display port for a second HDMI.
Generally a Cable works or does not, there digital. Delta might have other thoughts, also why he is shying from the display port. Trying another cable will not hurt. Traditionally these sort of issues come when a cable is jostled or sync is lost. I listed cables below... However, where did you buy the monitor? It might be prudent to exchange it or replace it with something similar. The behavior your experiencing is not normal. Any of these HDMI cable would work if the cable is at issue, different lengths and colors, I also list the the display port to HDMI cable. The cables are so cheap and shipping is going to be a couple bucks either way I personally might one of each. You may find need of the other cable later. You might have to scroll down on the page to see the cables, probably not on your monitor ![]() http://www.monoprice.com/products/se...d=hdmi%20cable I only listed the 3 in the Display port to HDMI because thats what they have in stock. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 Last edited by anthlover; 12-30-2012 at 09:42 AM. |

I am not "shying away" from using DisplayPort. I simply mention that, so that sliberty does not mistakenly get a DisplayPort cable, when he actually needs a _Mini_ DisplayPort cable.
anthlover has the correct items linked, but simply a not quite accurate description in the thread. Have you tried BOTH HDMI ports on your display? |

Ahh sorry misread your post Delta... Agreed no harm in trying 2nd HDMI port. Still might be something wrong with the display as I mentioned in the previous post. I mention the mini display port to HDMI cable because until the firmware fix from Intel/Apple there was some issues with hdmi. It would not be beyond imagination that there are still some (though that is not my understanding) and using the display port would circumvent it.

Is there any benefit/loss in going from mini display port to HDMI?
I mail ordered the monitor, so it is a bit of a pain in the ass to return it, and it is beyond 30 days, which means they will probably direct me to invoke warrantee instead of returning to the seller. I will certainly try the other HDMI port though in the mean time. I almost wish it would happen more frequently so it would be easier to determine when the problem is "fixed". |

No issues with using the mini display port to HDMI type of cable. I would suggest that you order both a 6 or 8 ft HDMI and the mini display port to HDMI cable. You will find a use for one or the other eventually.
The shipping cost of a few dollars is going to be about the same for 1 or 2 cables and the HDMI cable is only around $3. As I mentioned the only potential benefit of the mini display port would be to bypass any potential issue that might or might not remain with HDMI on the mini. |
