Getting back Preview as default PDF viewer after Adobe install
Adobe's latest version (something highly unnecessary) has stolen my ability to use Preview as default reader. Some Adobe snot thought this would be a cute change, I guess. This angers me about what Adobe is all about -- itself.
The obvious fixes do not apply to my situation. Clicking on any PFD file and then right clicking on "get info" opens a mostly informative window -- it give no options. There is a word, "Preview" with an arrow pointing down -- down or up provides no default option. With all said and loads of anguishment, the only recourse I have is to go directly to my Downloads folder and right click and choose "open with" and then "other" and then Preview. By the way, at the top of the list is the predominant Adobe -- more like a provocative virus that has taken away my freedom of choice. The idea of holding down both the "control" and "i" button with the above is useless. I am running Lion on my other wise wonderful iMac. |

You did not mention Reader vs. Full Acrobat... None the less have you Command Clicked on a .pdf, gone to Get Info, Clicked the triangle of the Open With, changed it to preview, and then clicked the Change ALL... button?
There may also be preferences in Acrobat itself. |

You might try going into the Reader preferences (from an admin account) and setting the default there.

Yes, Control-i is useless, you would want Command-i, which will give you the information window for a selected file. Find a PDF, right-click, choose Get Info. Look for the Open With section, click the little triangle. Choose "Preview" from the drop down menu in that Open With section. Then, click the box "Change All..." And, that should do it! Trying to find a setting in Adobe Reader to change which app opens a pdf by default - will probably leave you frustrated (Sorry, Red_Menace )

I tossed pretty much all Adobe stuff out long ago, but versions I've used in the past had an option in the preferences (much like Mail or Safari), although in typically bad Adobe style the option was not available in a standard account (which was frustrating).
