No more standalone iSight camera?
I am probably way out of date here, but a search of the Apple store says No Results.
So, what are Mac Mini users supposed to do then? Some crappy 3rd party jobby? Any quality suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

The 27 inch Thunderbolt display contains a HD camera, microphone and speaker system. And it's in stock!

I don't know when Apple officially stopped selling the external iSight camera, but a quick search indicates about 5 years ago. Since you've mentioned having iOS devices in other threads, could you achieve what you want using the FaceTime camera on one of those, perhaps with whatever app is necessary for connecting to the other party (e.g., Skype)?

I was thinking more about the Signature capture in Previw, tbh, but as a general question as well.
Signature in Preview transfer is now sorted thanks to chabig, but I was having idle thoughts about Skyping/similar. Thunderbolt display, or else then?

Other manufacturer's do make displays with webcams built in, so you're not confined to the Thunderbolt display.

Sure, but what's the quality like AND I already have 3 external displays, so would rather not buy another. Hmmph.
Somewhere....I must have my old iSight, but I haven't see it for years now.

Yes, I was rather unprepared for the lack of webcam/mic in the MacMini. I was planning to use the Dictation feature in Lion a lot.
The old iSight were FireWire, and I've already got a saturated FireWire chain, so USB would be better. There are a great many third-party webcam/mics for sale: from the cheap to the non-crappy. As iSight is several years old, I'd be surprised if a modern webcam wasn't significantly better. I'll let you know what I plum for; but if anyone has any recommendations...? |

Yes, I am very interested to hear what others have gone for and their experiences with said kit.
