Failed To Get IP Address : Interface - eoa-1

I've been having some trouble with my Internet connection so looked in the ADSL modem log and see an entry like this every two minutes:

MAJOR ALARM : Failed To Get IP Address : Interface - eoa-1

But I don't have an eoa interface set up. It's just PPPoE.

I get the "alarm" whether or not the DSL connection is up.

It seems harmless, but I would be nice to eliminate it.

The modem is a Huawei SmartAX MT880 in bridged mode. The PPPoE connection is handled by a Buffalo router running DD-WRT.

I imagine that 'eoa' is shorthand for 'ethernet over ADSL'. From the error messages it seems possible that a config for eoa has been left active when the modem was initially set up and since the ISP doesn't support it there's no DHCP for it.
Ignore it unless you want to spend some hours reading the docs on link configs.

I'm sure you're right. But, I spent lots of time looking through the configs and could never find an active eoa.

I'll ignore it.

That's actually Ethernet over ATM (EoA)
I'm not really sure about the use of EoA interfaces, but this article has something about it.
http://www.sonic.net/support/ss/zoom...p/eoa_main.htm
It appears to be more often used by your ISP to send data to your modem.
So, the interface might be there, but not "facing" you, but to the ISP, for the ISP's use.

ATM is normally utilized by Internet service providers on their private long-distance networks.

Perhaps the log entries are the result of using bridge mode with a modem that is struggling, or the configuration is not quite supported by your ISP.
