Firewire audio device not showing up
Hi,
My system was working fine, I disconnected everything to move the desk few feet, when I reconnected my firewire audio interface. Mac doesn't see it. I checked profiler/firewire. it shows on top section under firewire device tree built in Hub. on the bottom section it shows: Firewire Bus: maximum speed: up to 800mb/sec built-in hub maxspeed up to 800mb/sec connection speed: up to 800 mb/sec. it doesn't show anything else although the external device is connected and powered..... I replaced the cable with new one, I did smc rest, NVram rest and everything else... nothing seems to work. based on the info in the profiler, is this the way is supposed to look for a functioning firewire bus? Thank you. |

When you say "it shows on top section under firewire device tree", do you mean information specific to your audio interface is shown?
Exactly what version of OS X are you using? The way things show up in System Profiler can change drastically in different versions of OS X, so we need to know that to answer whether or not this is the way something is supposed to look. Also... First question--Does a different FireWire device show up when connected to the computer? Second question--Does the FireWire audio interface show up when connected to ANY computer? Given your troubleshooting steps already taken, I'm suspicious of damage to the FireWire PHY on either the computer or the interface. (This suspicion would be erased if when you said that "it" showed up you mean information specific to your audio interface, so please make sure to answer that question.) The two questions above should help narrow down where the issue might be. Trevor
