Log files in 10.8

In SL console log was some kind of database. Does ML have all logs as real files?

From what I remember of SL, the logging is pretty much the same in ML. In neither is all logging to a database, some goes to the ASL database and some goes to individual files under /var/log, /System/Library/Logs/, /Library/Logs/, and /Users/you/Library/Logs/.

Here's a hint on working with ASL from the command line.

And a post indicating that the database mirrors what is also written out to files.
