sending encrypted email?

I just learned from our credit union that simply by typing "encrypt" in the subject line of an email will encrypt the email's contents...

...and that the recipient must make their own password to open that email...

is this correct? any details left out..cuz to me..it sounds awfully easy..I myself have never even heard of this before.

thanks for any clarification!

As a test, I just sent myself an email with "encrypt" in the subject line, and the mail's contents were not encrypted.

Seems odd that I have not heard of such a feature, though there remain a few, very few, things of which I am not conversant, let alone expert. Can this feature somehow be associated with the credit union's email server or email client?

Sorry my help is not…

yeah, she might be so used to whatever she uses just assuming everyone has it, whatever the app or provider is...

I'm not finding confirmation googling either...

Makes no sense. How would sender and receiver have exclusive access to encryption/decryption keys without prior key exchange?

I have seen this before it only works generally for a company that sets up their mail server/relays and firewalls that way, e.g. we used iron ports and Cisco for the Sec exchange to the recipient.

At one company I worked for having access to this feature was a privilege (not everyone had the capability). It was used for Hipaa compliance (should have been the default). That is all external email be Encrypted unless user specified not to and everyone should have had rights to use it.

We also set up certain accounts and servers that sent mail to encrypt everything that went eternally. And yes An Encrypted email was triggered by the sender remembering to type Encrypt as part of the subject.

And yes the recipient would be prompted by the link in the email to create an account the first time with their own password which could be stored locally on their system.

The mail they recipient received was only a link to the original message and or attachment.

Note the Fine for Hipaa violation can be 50k per email.

On the receiving end, I used to have a company that automatically encrypted attachments and sent the password 5 minutes later. Not all that insecure as it required a Windows-only zip program, and as encrypted attachments can't go through the virus scanner people with Gmail etc. got them summarily deleted.

Email service to the hereafter? From a hospital? Does that include both possible destinations?

Externally

Externally lol not Eternally humorous that would be impressive.

Our servers certainly had no mail relays that were that capable of reaching people who has passed on.

Yeah I have seen companies use the dual email method with 2nd email containing the password file. Philips medical for one uses that.

I think the account creation method can be the best. I also use a eFax service max email. And instead of receiving the faxes in mail I have it set to be secure, I receive a link for a PDF which has to be downloaded from their secure site.
