File sharing and Permissions in Lion

I can establish file sharing between my 2 Macs across ethernet.
Both are running 10.7.4

I can take files from and add files to, but I can't change the names of folders on the other computer. I type Admin passwords when asked, but ultimately I'm told I don't have permissions.

The folders in question are set to read/write on each computer, so that would seem to be A-OK.

Any thoughts? Apple tells me that Lion made file sharing more secure, but trickier to configure, owing to permissions issues, and that I could be in for a lot of tinkering to keep things running smoothly.

thank you for any thoughts on this.

File sharing normally will rule out changing the file path, once file sharing is established.
That would be one reason why you are not allowed to change a folder name.
If you want to change a folder name, then turn file sharing off, change the name as you need to, then turn file sharing back on.

OK..sounds like I have limited powers owing to the very nature of file sharing itself...

thank you!

An ACL (Access Control List) will sort your issues.

How are you connecting and what too ?
Are you connecting to a home folder or a shared folder you have setup ?
Are the users on each machine different ?

So here is an example :
Lets says User A on Machine 1 wants their Documents folder to be shared and have R/W access to User B connecting from machine 2.

You would create a file sharing account on Machine 1 for User B.
Then add an ACL to Documents folder for USER B on Machine 1.
Propagate Permissions to Documents folder.
Now when they connect they should have full R/W access to folders and files within Documents folder.
