Best non-Apple 27"/similar display?

Any recommendations please? Thunderbolt nice, but not critical.
TIA

I think Apple's is best. Why doesn't it work for you?

Quite simply price.

For that money,
I can get a Mini, max it out and an Asus/Samsung/similar 27" monitor, or even 2 x 24" monitors. I am not editing video, just looking for maximum screen area for my work and photos.

I am not aware of any comparable displays for less money.

Here is a Dell for $999 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...n&sku=224-8284).

Here is HP for $670 (http://www.amazon.com/HP-ZR2740w-27-.../dp/B005MR4P0W)

Here is Samsung for $840 (http://www.amazon.com/LCD-Display-Ac.../dp/B0050X2YZQ)

But why buy either of those when you can get Apple's Thunderbolt Display for $849 as a refurb? http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...s/mac/displays)

Unfortunately, we don't get refurbs offered here.

Also, I checked and those two screens that you suggest are not available here either. There is an ASUS, but I couldn't find a stockist, even after calling their Head Office.

I have had this before. I often wonder how much business is lost in this country because call-centre staff are totally clueless. The ASUS girl, in English, even argued with me when I called back and asked for alternatives because the number she gave me is no longer in service. Of the 5 numbers I was given, 4 were out of service and the 5th did not stock monitors. Go figure.
