I am trying to help a friend (over Face Time) who has just bought a new late 2012 iMac and has attempted to transfer document folders from is PC to the iMac using Migration Assistant.
He tells me that everything seemed to go fine but none of the documents/folders appear under Documents on the Mac. He says they are on the Mac somewhere because they are listed individually under All my Files and he has been able to locate the folders using Spotlight and can drag a copy into the Documents folder. But where are the originals? Any Mac super sleuths out there?

The originals would be on the PC, eh?
When the files are moved to the Mac, then technically those are not originals, which would remain on the PC. You can locate any copies of the file (including the first one on the Mac) in Spotlight. Just type the name of the file in the Spotlight window. You likely only need to type a few letters, and perhaps not the complete name - unless you know exactly how it is spelled. Click "Show All in Finder" That will then display a search window, with results of the search already there. Right-click on your file, and choose "Open Enclosing Folder" Right-click on folder name at the top of that window, and you will see the exact path to that file When someone is not too familiar with the Finder, it's sometimes frustrating to move files without making a copy. This info may help, too...
