3 different browser gone wacky

I use 3 different browsers, Safari, Chrome and Firefox. I'm running a 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro with 4G ram on 10.6.8.

Recently I've been experiencing some odd problems with all three browsers. Some times pictures will have the broken link icon where the pictures should be, sometimes I get a message telling me that the server can't be found, sometimes I get the message that I'm not currently connected to the internet and sometimes the page layout is broken, meaning the content is just one long single col. with no photos. To top it off, if Safari tells me it can't find the server I'll try the same link in Firefox and it goes to the page. I've reset Safari, deleted the user in Chrome and done the latest Apple updates. If anyone has any thoughts that would be great. It just seems really odd that all three browsers have the same symptoms.

Ah, you do have one major piece in common, regardless of which browser you might use - your router....
Try restarting your router.
How old is your router?

...and what brand and model and firmware is your router?

And what type of internet connection do you have? What modem do you have for that connection (if you have one)?

The router is a Belkin a friend of mine set up a couple of years ago. I have, to paraphrase the IT Crowd, turned if off and on again, along with the modem, which didn't help. I have a DSL connection and I would estimate I got the modem about 6 months ago. My friend who set it up is an IT guy, so maybe I should ask him about it?

Thanks for responding!

If you have a friend who is knowledgeable about these matters, then invite him round for a drink or dinner.

Technical problems can be assessed and solved much more quickly when one is standing next to the equipment, rather than by 20 Questions on a forum.

A tiny detail might be readily apparent to the trained eye, which less experienced users might not notice and mention, or which even highly experienced users elsewhere might not think to ask.
