Google not completing search terms in Safari

I'm having very spotty experience with search terms not completing when I type them in Safari. I am not searching for anything nasty, just everyday ordinary searches, current events, etc.

Why sometimes this works, sometimes not?

Typing into the Safari search box? Or the search box on Google.com?

In either case, your browser needs to send the typed characters to Google and receive the suggested completions. That this works sometimes and not others seems to indicate it's a network problem. It could be that (in decreasing probability) your LAN is bogged down, or your ISP is under load, or even Google is under high load.

Does it fail at a consistent time of day? Are you doing other things on your network that would contribute to heavy load?

You could always try the current "go-to" suggestions of clearing your cache or rebooting.

typing into the search field in safari's toolbar...the one where you can choose google or other search engines..my choice is google. I don't notice any time of day when it's bad.

google bogged down? I thought they had more computational horsepower than Star Fleet?

That's why I put them at the least probable guess. There's also your ISP (and all the hops along the way) and your own LAN.

There's also the cache files.
