QuickTime Streaming Server is an excellent free option if you just want to broadcast MP3 files and such. If you want live audio/video streaming, I would suggest QuickTime Broadcaster. Both are free Apple products that you can probably download from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/ , or else you can definitely find them from MacUpdate or VersionTracker.

Question Questions!

are there laws that govern what i put on my stream? are there rules and regulations that need to be followed? i heard somewhere that you have to pay for broadcasting, even on a small scale. do you know if i were to expand, and make a website on which my stream is mentioned, would i need to pay something? are there laws that say i need to pay the recording industry X amount of money per song i play? if so, than how do i do that? please tell me the rules and regulations of internet streaming. thanks!!!

SliMP3 rocks!

You should definitely check out SliMP3, which can read your iTunes library file, or simply a folder with music. You can stream to either their hardware device or to anyone with a streaming client. Everyone can have their own station! Multiple hardware players can be played in sync, though they say that feature will be added to the software clients as well...

10.1 internet broadcasting laws

I would think you could access the FCC on the Internet;..surely you would be able to get the information you need from there.
<http://www.fcc.gov/>
At least it would be a place to start>
