If your referring to the sound macs make when you power them up, I think it is controlled via the hardware. I could be wrong, I have never really seen this brought up before, but it would require more messing around then I would be willing to do (if thats the case) on my TiBook...
Can anyone confirm (or deny) this fact?

Startup sounds are in ROM. You can't change them. Sorry.
(I know the guy who recorded the sound for the Macintosh Quadra series... done in his basement, with a harmonica and a reel-to-reel. Still the nicest startup sounds of any Mac.) Of course, you can add an additional sound to play upon login (people seem partial to Simpsons clips), but I don't think that's what you want. |

I want the old Power Mac 6100/60AV sound. That guitar string pluck was the greatest in audio fidelity.

I don't believe there is a startup chime file anywhere on your computer. It is stored in the hardware ROM.
There is a program called Mac Tracker that can play most of the startup chimes. |

Klink's link points to a page with a zip file. Unzip it for AIFF files.

The one named "Start-Up PowerMac PCI" sounded the same as the one from my TiBook. But.... *shrugs*
Look on the site I hyperlinked above, tsukiyomichris. There you'll see an application named "Save ROM" which will pull a sound file off a ROM. It's a Classic application that might work for you. Now get to work! ![]()
