Ordered 512MB but shows as 256MB!

Anyone else have this happen?

There are eight 32MB pieces on each side of the memory which should be 512MB total memory, but it shows only 256MB on my new iBook 700MHz.

Here's a pic: click here

Open /Applications/Calculator.app if you need to...

Did you order 512MB?

bwa-ha-ha! remedial cursing, too.

3dgamer, if it ain't what you ordered, or even if it is but it's not functionally acceptable, send it back!

merv, remedial? Does everyone think I'm stupid or something? Apparently I can't even do that right...

I blame myself being remedial on the internet, media saturation, and government conspiracies.

Forget what is stuck to the memory- your system only shows you have a 256MB dimm installed, you need to get your $$$ back or something-
Good luck-

Yep, it's going back for sure, however, I thought I'd make mention of it here just in case someone else could offer some insight and possibly it might offer help to others in a similar situation. I have to say that's not what I got from asking a simply question, but rather all bunch of off topic childishness (nosaj56)

What computer are you using? Some older macs can't take bigger than 256 MB chips (b/w G3's for instance), they will only use half of the physical memory.

I bought a 256 MB (one-sided) for my old b/w G3 and got very frustrated when it only showed me 128 MB, but then read about the issue, went back to the store and replaced it for a two-sided chip (still 256 of course) and then it workes correctly.

Of course, if your case is the same, then there's still no reason not to send it back, but then at least you'd know why it didn't work :-)

I have a new iBook 700MHz notebook which does officially support a total of 640MB of memory, so adding a 512MB stick should not be a problem

The company said they are sending me another stick, so that's not a problem. They mentioned that it could have be irradiated when crossing the border and that's why it doesn't show the correct amount of MB's. Very odd all the same because the stick is definately 512MB but strangely enough it only shows as a 256MB stick!

I'll let you all know what happens when I get another 512MB stick, if the next one doesn't work, maybe there is something odd going on with this particular notebook.

Well, I have the new memory now and its fine. That other memory must have not been fully compatible.
